Open Access
What is Open Access (OA)?
Open access (OA) refers to the practice of providing unrestricted access to scholarly research outputs, such as journal articles, conference papers, theses, and monographs, without any financial, legal, or technical barriers. It means that anyone can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these works freely. Open access aims to enhance the visibility and impact of research by making it widely accessible to the public, thereby promoting knowledge dissemination and fostering academic collaboration.
Gold OA
Gold OA refers to the publication model where scholarly works are made freely available to the public immediately upon publication. This model ensures that the final published version of an article, monograph, or conference proceeding is accessible online without any subscription or access fees. Authors typically retain copyright and publish under licenses that allow for sharing and reuse, such as Creative Commons licenses. Normally, a fee, namely Article Processing Charge (APC), will be charged to scholars for publishing Gold OA articles.
Hybrid OA
Hybrid OA refers to a publishing model where subscription-based journals offer authors the option to make individual articles freely accessible by paying an Article Processing Charge (APC). This model allows authors to choose between traditional subscription-based publishing and open access for their articles. While the journal continues to charge subscription fees for access to other content, the open-access articles are available to everyone with no cost.
Open Access Transformative Agreements
