Reading@CPCE 2015-16 – Book Essay Writing Competition

As part of the activities of Reading@CPCE 2015-16, a Book Essay Writing Competition will be held by the HKCC, SPEED, SLLC and CPCE Libraries. Winners can get big prizes, don’t miss the chance!   

Eligibility: HKCC and SPEED students

Language: Chinese or English

Submission deadline: 15 February 2016

Book for your essay: Book from Book Fair in September 2015, or any one of your favourite books

Group 1: Write and submit an essay on the work after reading the book

Group 2: Write and submit an essay on the work after reading the book AND viewing the work in one other format (e.g. movie, audio book etc.). The essay shall show enriched reflection of the work gained from viewing the work in the perspective of more than one format.

Criteria:

  • Originality
  • Language competency
  • Creativity and imagination
  • Evidence of personal reflection

Format: Save your essay (1,000-2,000 words) in a MS Word file. The file shall carry the title and author of the book that your essay reviews. NO personal information included.

Submission: Send your name, student ID, title and author of the book your essay reviews, and your essay in the format stated above to libcontest@cpce-polyu.edu.hk. Please note that you can submit more than one essay but each winner is eligible for one prize only.

Result announcement: Mid - End March 2016

A Judging Panel with the teachers of HKCC and SPEED, and librarian of the CPCE Libraries will decide the winning essays. The Judging Panel may ask the participant to submit the book under review for information, if needed.
